The year 2007 marked the competitive debut of the GP42 sailing class, which began to take shape with several new boats launched in late 2006 and early 2007.
Although the GP42 class did not yet have a unified circuit like it would later with the Audi MedCup, several teams competed in various regatas, primarily across the Mediterranean. The GP42 class was conceived as a smaller, more affordable version of the successful TP52s, aiming to be a “box rule” for fast racing boats.
