Marcelino Botin started Botin Partners Naval Architecture as a design and construction project in 1995.
It was the initial stages of the IMS boom in the Med and new racing projects where emerging all over Spain. With the help of sponsorship from the insurance company Zuritel, Marcelino started the company Astilleros Mouro with the objective of designing, building and campaigning a 33ft IMS racer in the Spanish IMS circuit.
Zuritel was built in Santander, Spain, by well known boat builder and tactician Antonio Piris. A crew lead by Pichu Torcida at the helm, Antonio Piris as tactician and mostly formed by talented local sailors campaigned this first Botin design during two very successful seasons in 1996 and 1997.
